Transmission Talk
Why do I need to flush my automatic transmission?
The automatic transmission in your car is essentially a gigantic hydraulic
pump. It uses transmission fluid to transfer engine torque to the drive
wheels through a "torque converter" to a series of valves and
pumps to control fluid flow and pressure. As with the other fluid systems
on your car, much is expected of this fluid and it deteriorates rapidly
with heat, contaminants, and oxidation--it will tend to thicken over
time and not flow as needed and reduce the efficiency of this unit, as
well as shorten its useful life.
If your transmission fails it can be very costly and routine maintenance
is the best way
Prevent that from happening.
What does a transmission flush do?
Our transmission flush service will dissolve and suspend gum in the system and then flush it out of the system. It also removes the old fluid and debris and refills it with new fluid. It can eliminate most hard shifting problems, chattering, slipping and provides cooler running operation while special additives will condition seals and prolong the life of your transmission!
How often should I service my transmission?
Most manufacturers recommend flushing the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. We also recommend flushing the fluid when it is dirty or smells burnt. Proper maintenance and flushing of the transmission are crucial in maintaining your factory warranty and also many extended warranties require that service as well. If your transmission fails and you cannot provide proof that routine maintenance has been done they may decline to cover the repairs if a failure does happen.
So whatever vehicle you own, Bellingham Automotive has the technology and expertise to keep your car running in top condition.
